Arizona’s target date to fully legalize fantasy sports is less than 90 days away. The state’s top gaming official wants public help so adults 21 and up can also be free to bet on the outcome of professional football in early September.
State regulators have released 13 pages of draft rules for betting on games and fantasy sports.
Arizona lawmakers made the Gaming Department exempt from the normal rule-making process so adults can bet on sports sooner. In return, Director Ted Vogt has to ensure openness.
Vogt wants feedback on the draft rules during open meetings scheduled for Friday and Monday.
“As well as there’s about four major policy issues that we’d like the public to weigh in on,” said Vogt.
The issues are what it will cost to place a bet and to have a sportsbook license. Plus how the state should distribute licenses if applicants outnumber those available, and how many brands can operate under a license.
Vogt said the Gaming Department aims to finish making rules for fantasy sports and contest wagering by early July, adding that the state is on track for gambling to start in early September.
