Svenska Spel - 93 percent healthy revenue in the second quarter

In the second quarter of 2024, Svenska Spel achieved a share of 93.2 percent of healthy revenue [1] , which is an increase compared to the previous quarter (92.2 percent). The key figure indicates income from customers who gamble responsibly and with a low risk of problem gambling. - Our goal is to increase the share of healthy revenue through upcoming measures that strengthen consumer protection around our games, says Anna Johnson, president and CEO of Svenska Spel.
- During quarter two, our net gaming revenue amounted to SEK 1.87 billion. 93 percent of these come from customers who play with a low risk with us. We want to minimize revenue from customers who play in a way that can lead to problems. That's why we work purposefully so that our customers are aware and don't play for more than they can afford, says Anna Johnson.
The calculation of the share of healthy income is based on risk models [2] in Svenska Spel's analysis tool Playscan [3] . These have been developed in collaboration with Sustainable Interaction who are independent specialists in responsible gambling. In Playscan, customers are categorized based on an analysis of their gambling habits and an assessment of the risk each customer runs of developing gambling problems. Revenue from customers who have a low risk of developing gambling problems is defined as healthy.
- The goal is to detect in time when gambling goes from being controlled to becoming more risky so that we can prevent it from developing into problem gambling. If we see signs that a customer is starting to play risky, we act in several steps, from notifications to direct personal contact. In the extreme, we introduce gambling restrictions or block customers from our games completely, says Mikael Franzén, head of gambling responsibility at Svenska Spel.
All serious gambling companies work to protect their customers and limit the number of people who get into trouble. In order to increase transparency in the gambling industry, Svenska Spel believes it is important to report the share of healthy revenues, which is seen as a central part of the work with responsible gambling.
- As we have strengthened our gambling responsibility measures, the percentage of healthy revenue has continuously increased during the year. I hope that more gambling companies with a license in Sweden start reporting this key figure in a reliable way, says Anna Johnson.
During the autumn, Svenska Spel plans to introduce a series of new measures that will further strengthen consumer protection around the games.
